Collection consists of regimental orders, muster rolls, and documents related to Brooklyn's National Guard units and their predecessor organizations. Included are the Twenty-third Regiment records consisting of typescript histories, muster rolls, and copies of the regimental journal, VIGILANTIA, 1862-1957; Thirteenth Regiment records (1832-1872) consisting of regimental orders, muster rolls, minutes of the Brooklyn Light Guard (1846-1850) and the Brooklyn City Cadets (1832-1862), and regimental programs (1884-1894); and Thirty-second Regiment records consisting of vouchers and a passbook to the regiment's account at Germania Savings Bank, Williamsburg, 1875-1877. Also included are news clippings, scrapbooks, and photographs of Brooklyn armories and regimental soldiers.

Andersonville Prison, represented in the collection through its hospital records and registers, was located in southwest Georgia and operated for 15 months between 1864 and 1865. The site was used by the Confederate Army as a prisoner-of-war camp for captured Union soldiers. At the time of its closure, almost 13,000 Union soldiers had died at Andersonville. The records were collected by E. P. Hopkins, a captured soldier from Ohio who worked as a steward in the prison hospital. ...
